Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Engineering, Engineering Technology and Surveying at East Tennessee State University ( ETSU ) seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering starting August 15, 2025. This is a 9-month faculty position located in Johnson City, TN. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in mechanical and general engineering, including topics such as statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, and more. They will also teach courses for the Engineering Technology program and support the General Engineering ( BSE ) and Engineering Technology programs through activities like ABET accreditation, senior design projects, and advising student organizations. Maintaining an active research program to attract external funding is expected. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the role includes engaging in student advising, recruitment events, and department/university service. ETSU is a comprehensive teaching and research university with an enrollment of approximately 15,000 students. Required Qualifications
The candidate must have either a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related field) by the hire date or a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering and 10 years of relevant industrial experience to be considered. Successful record of research and applied scholarly activities. Demonstrated experience and commitment to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates who have proven track records of Industrial and/or teaching experience. A robust track record of publication and extramurally funded research. P.E. licensure is also a preferred qualification.
