Threod Systems is a leading Provider of Battle-Tested Military Technology Solutions. We are a world-class technology and engineering company that designs and manufactures market-leading Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Electro-Optical Systems and Aircraft Launching Systems for critical defence missions, governmental and commercial applications.
We're looking for an
Electrical and Electronics Engineer
to support the development and integration of electronics and hardware in our UAV launcher systems —including design of custom PCBAs, electrical integration of actuators and subsystems (e.g. motors, compressors), and off-the-shelf industrial control and power modules. The role spans concept design to production support, contributing to a complex electromechanical system with distributed power, networking, and industrial communication interfaces.
YOUR ROLE
System ownership and architecture
- Take full technical ownership of the launcher's electrical and electronic systems, including power distribution, PCBAs, wiring, sensors, actuators, control panels, safety systems, and integration of off-the-shelf industrial components.
- Collaborate with software and mechanical engineers in a cross-functional team throughout the product lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal processes, design guidelines, and development standards.
Design and development
- Design analog and digital circuits, including signal conditioning, DC/DC power regulation, voltage monitoring, and microcontroller interfaces.
- Select and evaluate components, perform derating analysis, and maintain robust BOMs with consideration for MTBF and long-term field reliability.
- Simulate circuits where needed (e.g. SPICE or equivalent) for functional or failure behavior.
- Create schematics and multilayer PCB layouts using Altium Designer, from component placement to routing and output generation.
- Select and specify connectors, plan cable routing in coordination with mechanical design, and design interface circuitry for reliable power and signal integrity.
- Design and document power wiring, signal harnesses, cable assemblies, and electrical distribution across launcher sections.
- Integrate actuators, motors, compressors, and other off-the-shelf industrial components within the electrical system.
- Ensure safe and efficient integration of battery systems and power distribution components, including DC/DC converters, protection circuits, and precharge strategies where applicable.
- Support hardware-level integration of industrial communication protocols such as IO-Link, Profinet, and CAN.
- Ensure mechanical integration of PCBs and electrical assemblies, including mounting, connector alignment, cabling, enclosure fitment, ingress protection and 3D constraints.
- Plan and implement PCB and system-level grounding, shielding, and decoupling strategies to ensure signal integrity, EMI/EMC performance, and safe operation in distributed environments.
- Design for thermal performance (e.g. heatsinking, airflow) and for mechanical and environmental robustness (vibration, temperature, ingress), in collaboration with mechanical engineering.
- Ensure design for manufacturability (DFM), design for testability (DFT), apply DFMEA to identify and mitigate design risks, and optimize electronics for efficient and reliable production.
Prototyping and validation
- Assemble and bring up early prototypes, including PCBAs, test boards, cable harnesses, and development fixtures.
- Support integration of electrical and electronic systems during lab and field-testing phases.
- Develop and execute functional, performance, and environmental tests (e.g. thermal, EMC, vibration, electrical load).
- Troubleshoot electronics and electrical issues using lab and field equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, thermal cameras, etc.).
Production and field support
- Support electrical and electronics integration during system builds, including testing, harness installations, and troubleshooting.
- Assist in field diagnostics, failure analysis, and on-site troubleshooting for deployed systems.
- Coordinate with production engineers and suppliers to resolve build issues and validate electrical assemblies.
- Prepare and maintain complete documentation: schematics, layout files, wiring diagrams, test reports, design justifications, and release packages.
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in electronics and hardware product development.
- Experience across both custom PCBA design and broader electrical system integration.
- Proficiency in schematic capture and multilayer PCB design (e.g. Altium Designer).
- Experience with lab testing, debugging, and validation of both PCBAs and complete electrical assemblies.
- Understanding of analog/digital circuits, signal conditioning, DC/DC converters, protection circuits, and battery systems.
- Ability to design and document cable harnesses, power wiring, and distributed electrical architectures (e.g. Eplan).
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as IO-Link, Profinet, or CAN at the hardware level.
- Applied understanding of EMI/EMC design practices, grounding, and shielding in distributed systems.
- Understanding of reliability-driven design, including derating, MTBF considerations, and ruggedized component selection.
- Familiarity with integrating wireless or radio communication modules in embedded hardware systems.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, prototype-heavy development cycle where early testing and iteration are valued.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams (mechanical, software, production).
Would be beneficial:
- Experience with safety-critical or high-reliability systems.
- Exposure to EMC testing and compliance.
- Applied understanding of MTBF estimation or reliability modelling techniques.
- Understanding of thermal management, vibration isolation, and ingress protection in fielded equipment.
- Background in defence, aerospace, robotics or rugged industrial systems.
WHAT WE OFFER
- High-impact work on electronics and electrical systems that are deployed in the field and operate in mission-critical environments.
- Strong emphasis on technical ownership, fast iteration, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the chance to work on both early prototypes and fielded systems.
- Performance is recognized based on real contributions: delivering robust electrical designs, solving integration challenges, and enabling reliable system-level operation.
- Opportunities to grow into system architecture, technical leadership, or deep specialist roles in electronics, power systems or embedded integration.
- Be part of shaping cutting-edge military technology with real-world impact, contributing to safer operations and better outcomes in high-stakes environments.
- Competitive salary and benefits in a hands-on, mission-driven engineering team.
This is an on-site role based in Maardu, Estonia. We can only accept applications from candidates who are already in the area
