About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Chief Legal Officer to lead our legal strategy and oversee all legal matters across the group. This is a senior leadership role with responsibility for corporate governance, commercial contracting, product counseling, litigation, legal risk management, and legal operations/automation.

As a trusted advisor to the Management Board and Supervisory Board, the CLO ensures legal considerations are embedded in all aspects of business operations, balancing innovation and growth with strong legal safeguards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Legal Strategy & Governance – Define and execute the company's legal strategy, advising the Management Board and Supervisory Board on corporate law and governance.
  • Contract Negotiation & Drafting – Lead negotiations and draft agreements with clients, partners, and vendors.
  • Product Counseling – Partner with product teams on launches and changes, ensuring UX compliance, T&Cs, tariffs, and customer notices meet legal standards.
  • Litigation & Dispute Management – Represent the company in disputes and manage external counsel where needed.
  • Legal Risk Management – Identify and mitigate legal risks in daily operations (distinct from compliance monitoring).
  • Scheme & Industry Rules – Interpret and operationalize card scheme and industry requirements in collaboration with Compliance and Risk.
  • Regulator & External Counsel Liaison – Manage interactions with regulators and coordinate external legal advisors.
  • Legal Operations – Drive contract lifecycle management, document automation, registers, and process improvements.
  • Team Leadership – Build, lead, and develop the legal team while fostering a "legal-by-design" culture.

Requirements

  • EU-qualified lawyer (Estonian Bar membership strongly preferred).
  • 5+ years of experience in a regulated environment (fintech, payments, or banking).

  • Proven experience in:

  • Leading commercial negotiations with financial institutions and technology providers.

  • Advising boards on governance and corporate law.
  • Managing regulatory interactions without overlapping with compliance monitoring.

  • Building or scaling a legal function, including automation and process improvements.

  • Strong communication skills – able to translate legal language into clear business terms.

  • Strategic, pragmatic, and collaborative mindset with high integrity.
